Wellbeing & Amber Flag

In Powerscourt National School, we place a huge emphasis on wellbeing. We endeavour to equip our pupils with the knowledge to empower them to look after their mental health.  Creating an inclusive and kind community at our School is key to this. Our motto is ‘Just be kind’!

The Pieta Amber Flag Initiative recognises efforts to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being in primary schools, secondary schools, further education and training centres, Youthreach, third level as well as clubs and organizations, all around Ireland.

Our Amber Flag committee are involved with organising activities, talks and fundraisers for the school addressing each of the three pillars of our Amber Flag (Mental Health and Wellbeing, Neurodiversity and Anti Bullying). In June 2025 we achieved our very first Amber Flag, which was in recognition of the importance that we place on positive mental health within our school community and the promotion of an inclusive environment.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to begin and/or continue their age-appropriate well-being journey and understanding of mental health - helping them recognise and understand their own feelings (emotional literacy), having respect and empathy for others, celebrating diversity, promoting self-care, healthy friendships and anti-bullying. We will be inviting speakers to the school as well as incorporating many of these teachings into subjects such as Literacy, SPHE, Arts Education and PE.

Powerscourt National School acknowledges that the well-being of our children is a shared community responsibility. We are committed to creating a safer space for everyone to express themselves, seek help, and support each other. We aim to keep families up-to-date on all Amber Flag activities through our weekly newsletter.
